Neleen Leslie is a graduate student completing a PhD in Mass Communication at Florida State University with a research focus on Multicultural Marketing Communication.

She is a native of the island of Jamaica where she lived, studied and worked prior to coming to the United States. She attended the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing with a minor in International Business. After university, Neleen worked at Lascelles Limited, one of Jamaica’s largest distributors, for three years. During her stint at Lascelles, she held several positions: Marketing Assistant, Marketing Officer and finally Brand Manager for Federated Pharmaceuticals, a local manufacturer of prescription and over the counter drugs from 2008 to 2010.

After being awarded a Fulbright scholarship in July of 2013, Neleen moved to Tallahassee that fall to pursue a Master of Science in Integrated Marketing Communication. Being from a culturally diverse country, Neleen had always been fascinated by culture’s effect on marketing communication. Multicultural Marketing communication was therefore the natural choice; during her master’s program, Neleen enrolled in the Account Planning, Multicultural Marketing Communication, and Diffusion of Innovation courses.  In addition, she wrote her master’s thesis based on research that was done in the Multicultural Marketing Communication course in the spring of 2011. She graduated from the Master’s program in December of 2011 and enrolled in the PhD program in January of 2012.

In addition to her work with the Center for Hispanic Marketing Communication, Neleen continues to conduct multicultural research and has presented her work at a number of conferences across the United States.
