Students of the Center for Hispanic Marketing Communication Celebrate Award-Winning Papers and Presentations

 

Florida State Students Attend the 8th Biennial Hispanic/Latino Media & Marketing Conference

 

TALLAHASSEE, FL – 04/18/2024 – The Center for Hispanic Marketing Communication (CHMC) and its students attended the 8th Biennial Hispanic/Latino Media & Marketing Conference organized by the Association for Latino Media, Markets & Communication Research (ALMMACR). The conference was held from April 5th to 6th in East Lansing, Michigan at the Michigan State University campus.

 

Several awards were presented to the students of the CHMC for outstanding papers and presentation performances. The award for Top Student Paper was given to doctoral students Alessandra Noli Peschiera and Derrick Pacheco and undergraduate student Stephanie Bonilla for their research titled “Rhythm and Resonance: An Analysis of Female Representation in Reggaeton Music.” The Most Outstanding Paper award was given to doctoral student Talalah Khan and Dr. Sindy Chapa, professor and Director of the CHMC, for their paper submission titled “Luxury Consumption Shifts Among Hispanic and Non-Hispanic Consumers in a Post-Covid World.”

 

Alongside the award-winning submissions, several students participated in the conference to share presentations and panel discussions. CHMC students Helen Lazo, Sasha Madrid, Katherinne Peralta, Santiago Reyes, and Stephanie Matos led a panel discussion regarding media consumption habits among the Hispanic consumer segments in the United States. Another segment of the student delegation, Allen Yarrington, Katherinne Peralta, and Santiago Reyes presented their research titled “Exploring Skopos Theory in Film Translation: Audience Perceptions of Cultural Adaptation in American and Latin American Cinema.” Doctoral student, Ashley Johns presented her research called “Connecting through Social Media: A Study of Social Media Consumption between Hispanic and Non-Hispanic Populations in the US” in collaboration with Dr. Chapa.

 

“The students of the Center for Hispanic Marketing Communication have worked so hard on their research,” said Dr. Chapa. “I am very proud of their accomplishments and how they represent the excellence of the Center.” Dr. Chapa won the award for Outstanding Commitment and Service for her impact throughout her entire tenure of service on the ALMMACR board.

 

Through initiatives that promote innovation and academic discourse within the field of Hispanic and multicultural marketing, the CHMC continues to nurture the talents of its students. As we celebrate the achievements and participation of the remarkable students of the CHMC, we also extend appreciation to the faculty members and mentors involved in preparing them to make meaningful contributions to their respective fields.
